. the school is investigating the incident. >>> a councilwoman wants to change the way we report child abuse. joan buchanan introducing giving staff adequate training. a second bill would give districts the authority in child abuse cases to immediately remove teachers from the classroom. >>> overnight we learned a san jose police officer who shot and killed a suspect on monday night has been involved in a shooting before. the officer fired on the suspect after police say the suspect tried to rundown the officer. that same officer was involved in a shoot-out last november that ended a robbery and homicide rampage. the suspect in that shooting was hit but not killed. san jose has had two officer-involved shootings so far this year. san jose must now disclose city officials private text messages, e-mails, or other electronic communication about city affairs if requested. the ruling made by a santa clara county judge last week is in response to an activist's request. that activist sued the city in 2009 over its refusal to disclose personal electronic communications. a city attorney says the deci

kieran bruce brewer hit 17-year-old hanran chang as she closed the boulevard saturday night. there's a small memorial right now at that crosswalk where she was killed. we can tell you there are no stop signs or stoplights in that area. yesterday san francisco supervisors approving funding to make safety improvements along that very road way. >>> a follow-up to breaking news we brought you yesterday. a registered sex offender is back in jail after he reportedly broke into a woman's home in san jose early yesterday morning. police arrested 29-year-old ryan kamfolt on suspicion of burglary. they say he is a registered sex offender and also on probation for burglary. officers found him when he tried to leave the neighborhood off monterey road and the burnal exit off of 101. they say he was using a smartphone with a scanner app that allowed him to listen to police radio. he was also wearing an ankle bracelet. >>> you've had a little bit of breaks here and there, but now back on it. >> the heaviest has come through although we'll keep an unsettled pattern going all the way through friday

. >>> and happening now, former san francisco crime lab technician accused of stealing cocaine is expected to change her plea in court. debra madden is expected to plead guilty today to a lesser charge of misdemeanor cocaine possession. madden has already gone to trial twice on charges of obtaining cocaine from the lab by means of fraud or deception. both ended in hung juries. madden's arrest in 2010 forced the district attorney to drop hundreds of criminal cases. >>> it was nothing short of a chaotic morning in san francisco and it ends up with a suspect behind bars. police say a stolen taxi rammed right into a patrol car in the area of jackson and spruce this morning. one officer had to jump right out of the way just to avoid being hit as a second officer fired a shot right at the taxi. the suspect we can tell you was not hit. he did continue driving, ditching that car nearby on octa octavius street. he was arrested a few blocks away for carjacking and assault on a police officer. >>> so are we going to have blue skies when we don our green on sunday? >> yeah, we are. it is going to be so nice. >>

changes to the vatican beaurocracy, curia, riddled with infighting and scandal. jay gray, nbc news, rome. >>> also new this morning, a tragic accident from nevada where seven marines are now dead following an explosion during a training exercise. military officials say a mortar was set off during a live fire training exercise at hawthorne army depot. at least seven others were wounded. all of them rushed to a hospital. the marines killed during that training all part of the second marine ground combat force based in camp lejeune, north carolina. >>> back here in the southbay, one man is dead after san jose police say he tried to run over an officer with his car. it happened in an unincorporated area of san jose just before 7:00 last night, three san jose police officers tried to pull over a stolen car. the driver reportedly refused to stop and instead rammed the back of an unmarked police car. when the officer had gotten out of his car, police say the suspect tried to run him over. that's when the officer fired that deadly shot. >> just heard two quick shots, pop, pop. then that's when a
late night commute starting tonight. b.a.r.t. is making changes to its schedule on tuesdays, wednesdays, and thursdays after 10:00 p.m. to accommodate construction for earthquake safety upgrades. b.a.r.t. will be single tracking train through certain tunnels where construction will be taking place causing delays of up to 20 minutes. the work is supposed to go on for 14 months. b.a.r.t. says the partial closures will give them extra time to complete the upgrades in addition to overnight hours when the tunnels are completely closed. >>> speaking of tunnels, marla, devils slide tunnels now open. chp opened up the roadway to drivers this morning. motorcade of classic cars helped celebrate the opening during a ceremony yesterday. look at that one. crews did work last night and cleared out around 2:00 a.m. the tunnels remrs. a treacherous stretch of highway 1 good pacifica and half moon bay. in the past heavy rains washed out the roadway numerous times. >> now a follow-up to a story we first told you about last week. san francisco police say a missing service dog taken from his sleeping owner
pavilion could be headed for a name change. nbc bay area's bob redell is live outside the tank with why the switch might be made as soon as this summer. good morning, bob. >> reporter: good morning to you, marla. that's because hewlett-packard wants to get out of its naming rights agreement with hp pavilion, according to one report. instead it would like those letters of its company off the facility and let someone else put their letters up there. that other company could be sap, one of hp's business partners. this is all according to a report on dow jones website, all things digital. the owner, who also happens to be a majority owner of the san jose sharks asked ceo meg whitman during a business meeting whether her company wanted to continue with the naming rights. she said no. it would save hp millions but not a huge saving for a company that size. the bigger issue is hp not wanting to attach itself to hp pavilion, which happens to also be the name of its pc brand, a brand that has been struggling as of late. but if hp does pull out, still not clear what the new name would be. >> i li
